Development & Background

A near-complete redesign of the TBM line

The Daher TBM 900 represents a major leap forward in the evolution of the TBM series, combining the proven performance of its predecessors with cutting-edge aerodynamic and systems enhancements.

The TBM lineage began with the TBM 700 in the late 1980s, created through a Franco-American partnership between Socata (France) and Mooney Aircraft (U.S.). The goal was to build a single-engine turboprop capable of matching light jet speeds while maintaining lower costs and greater operational flexibility.

By 2014, Daher modernized the platform entirely, launching the TBM 900 as a near-complete redesign rather than a simple upgrade. A redesigned composite five-blade Hartzell propeller improved climb and cruise efficiency, while a new inlet plenum system enhanced airflow to the Pratt & Whitney PT6A-66D engine. A re-profiled cowling and tail cone reduced drag by nearly 2.5%, boosting cruise speed to 330 KTAS. Pilots gained the Garmin G1000 suite, integrating flight management, synthetic vision, and situational awareness.

Perfect for regional and transcontinental missions alike, the TBM 900 delivers jet-like performance with turboprop efficiency, connecting destinations such as Miami to New York or Geneva to London nonstop.

Capabilities & Performance

Speed and range without compromise

Powered by a Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-66D engine driving a 5-blade Hartzell composite propeller, the TBM 900 delivers impressive turboprop performance with light-jet speed. It cruises at up to 330 KTAS (611 km/h) and covers 1,730 nautical miles nonstop, reaching a service ceiling of 31,000 ft. With a climb rate of 2,750 ft/min and short-field capability — takeoff in 2,380 ft and landing in 2,430 ft — the TBM 900 can access airports larger jets simply cannot.

Fuel-efficient and reliable, burning just 60–65 gallons per hour, the TBM 900 combines speed, efficiency, and comfort — whether flying New York to Dallas, Los Angeles to Aspen, or London to Athens.
