Development & Background

A legacy of French craftsmanship and American engineering

The Daher TBM 850 represents the evolution of the TBM legacy, blending French craftsmanship with American engineering innovation. The TBM program traces its roots back to the 1980s, when Socata (France) and Mooney Aircraft (U.S.) collaborated to develop a high-performance, single-engine turboprop that could rival small business jets — the TBM 700.

Following the success of the TBM 700, Daher launched the TBM 850 in 2006, introducing a substantial increase in power and performance. The aircraft was equipped with a Pratt & Whitney PT6A-66D engine producing 850 shaft horsepower, making it the fastest production single-engine turboprop in the world at the time. Daher also integrated an advanced Garmin avionics suite and improved aerodynamic refinements, bridging the gap between the TBM 700 and the later TBM 900 with jet-like speed and short-field versatility.
