Development & Background

Evolving the Legacy 450 into a super-midsize contender

The Embraer Praetor 500 is one of the most advanced midsize business jets in its class, an evolution of the previous Embraer Legacy 450 with cutting-edge fly-by-wire technology, longer range, and redefined luxury.

After the wide success of the Legacy 450, the Praetor 500 was introduced in 2018 as a transformed super-midsize contender. Embraer added extra fuel capacity, newer winglets to reduce drag, and Honeywell HTF7500E engines, extending its range by nearly 500 nautical miles over its predecessor.

"It's the smoothest flight I've ever experienced in a midsize jet. The turbulence control system makes a noticeable difference."

Cabin & Interior Experience

A Bossa Nova interior with stone flooring

The Praetor 500 offers a flat-floor cabin with nearly 6 ft of headroom, featuring 8 fully reclining club seats that convert into a flat bed, stone-finished galley flooring, and hand-stitched Bossa Nova seats. An enclosed lavatory with vanity and backlit mirror sits at the rear of the aircraft.

Between the seats, a touchscreen cabin management system controls temperature and lighting, alongside high-speed Wi-Fi, Bluetooth streaming, and multiple device charging points. The cabin is also one of the quietest in its class, with a cabin altitude of just 5,800 ft when cruising at 45,000 ft, keeping passengers refreshed on longer flights.

Capabilities & Performance

Short-field access with super-midsize range

The Praetor 500 is equipped with Honeywell HTF7500E turbofan engines, cruising at 466 knots and climbing to 43,000 ft in under 25 minutes. With a range of 3,340 nm, routes such as Houston to Bogotá, Dubai to Bangkok, or Los Angeles to Honolulu are possible, and its short-field capability opens access to airports like Aspen, Teterboro, and London City.

Pilots are equipped with a Rockwell Collins avionics system with a Synthetic Vision System for CAT I ILS approaches that allows the autopilot to descend to 150 ft AGL, along with an Enhanced Flight Vision System and EVS-3000 infrared camera.
