Development & Background
The origins of the Hawker 700 trace back to the de Havilland DH.125 Jet Dragon, introduced in 1962 as one of the first purpose-built business jets. Hawker Siddeley Aviation acquired de Havilland in 1963 and rebranded the DH.125 as the Hawker HS.125, producing multiple variants over the following years.
Building on the success of the early HS.125 line, British Aerospace introduced the Hawker 700 in 1977 as a major redesign addressing performance and range limitations of the earlier series. The 700 series received two Garrett TFE731-3R turbofan engines for more range, better fuel efficiency, and quieter operation, along with a new wing design, increased fuel capacity, enhanced pressurization systems, and an optional Rockwell Collins Pro Line avionics suite.
Over 200 Hawker 700s were built before production ended in 1983, making it a stepping stone toward later variants such as the Hawker 800 and Hawker 850XP.
