Development & Background
The Gulfstream GIV/GIV-SP was a rising star in its class during the 2000s, shaping business aviation since entering service in the late 1980s. With over 4,000 nautical miles of range — nonstop from New York to London or Los Angeles to Honolulu — excellent reliability, and a spacious cabin, executives, celebrities, and government officials have long favored the GIV/SP for private travel.
In 1983, under the leadership of Allen Paulson, Gulfstream released the GIV, and after certification in 1987, celebrities and executives were responsible for over 500 deliveries worldwide. In 1992, the Gulfstream GIV-SP was released with increased range, better takeoff performance, and higher operating weights, setting the stage for later Gulfstream models such as the GV, G550, and G450.
