Development & Background
Originally designed by Israel Aerospace Industries, the Gulfstream G100 remains one of the most unique collaborations in business aviation. During its time, the G100 was known for its remarkable speed, range, and climb performance, becoming the foundation for the next generation of super-midsize Gulfstream models.
During the 1980s, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) set out to create a more advanced version of the Westwind aircraft, resulting in the IAI Astra SPX. After certification in 1985, the Astra SPX featured a supercritical wing — delaying the onset of shock waves at higher subsonic speeds for smoother airflow and reduced wave drag, pushing airspeed near Mach 0.8+ — along with Garrett TFE731-40R engines for better performance and fuel efficiency.
In 2001, Gulfstream acquired the program and rebranded it as the Gulfstream G100, adding U.S. avionics (Rockwell Collins Pro Line 4), luxurious interiors, and improved reliability. The G100 became a stepping stone toward what Gulfstream would later offer in the super-midsize category.

Cabin & Interior Experience
The Gulfstream G100 offers a flat-floor cabin that gives passengers a greater sense of room and comfort in flight. Seating for 6 to 8 passengers is arranged in club configuration with fold-out tables for work or dining. An enclosed lavatory sits in the rear, with a galley and refreshment center forward. The cabin includes air conditioning and multiple power outlets, with optional Wi-Fi depending on the operator.
Capabilities & Performance
With Honeywell TFE731 engines, the G100 cruises at Mach 0.80 and climbs to 37,000 feet in under 20 minutes. Its nonstop range of up to 2,860 nm with NBAA reserves makes routes like Houston to New York, Dallas to San Francisco, or Miami to Cartagena entirely possible.
