Development & Background

A shorter-cabin evolution of the Global Express

The Bombardier Global 5000 is one of the most versatile long-range private jets, delivering intercontinental range, exceptional speed, and an ultra-luxurious cabin experience.

The Global 5000 program was introduced in 2001 to complement the Global Express platform. It shares the same wing and fuselage cross-section but has a shorter cabin and reduced weight. While this trims total range by more than 1,000 nautical miles compared to the Global Express (XRS), the Global 5000 carries over 1,500 lbs more payload while offering shorter takeoff and landing performance — on a 1,000-nautical-mile flight, it needs a takeoff distance of just 2,743 feet. Bombardier also introduced the Vision Flight Deck on the Global 5000, which improved pilot situational awareness and control, and went on to become the standard avionics suite for future Global variants.

Capabilities & Performance

Mach 0.89 cruise, Houston to Paris nonstop

The Global 5000 is equipped with two Rolls-Royce BR710A2-20 engines producing 14,750 lbs of thrust. The combination of engines, fuselage, and wing aerodynamics allows a range of 5,200 nm and a service ceiling of 51,000 ft, enabling nonstop missions such as Houston to Paris or Los Angeles to Tokyo at a max speed of Mach 0.89. Pilots use the Bombardier Vision Flight Deck with Collins Pro Line Fusion to enhance situational awareness and safety.

The Global 5000 is dual-pilot operated, with charter operations typically requiring at least 4,000 total flight hours for captains and 2,500 for first officers.
