Development & Background
The Dassault Falcon 2000 traces its lineage to the Falcon 900 series, conceived as a smaller, twin-engine derivative that preserved the DNA of Dassault's aerodynamic efficiency and robust design philosophy. Introduced in the mid-1990s, the Falcon 2000 was developed to meet demand for a more cost-effective large-cabin jet that could deliver intercontinental range while maintaining low direct operating costs.
Dassault leveraged aerospace expertise from the Mirage fighter program to engineer a supercritical wing and lightweight fuselage refined through computational fluid dynamics. The Falcon 2000 debuted in 1995, powered by two General Electric CFE738-1-1B turbofans — the only business jet ever to use that engine, jointly developed by GE and AlliedSignal.
As performance demands increased, Dassault introduced the Falcon 2000EX in 2003, replacing the original engines with Pratt & Whitney Canada PW308C turbofans for higher thrust, better climb rates, and range exceeding 4,000 nautical miles. The Falcon 2000LX followed in 2007 with blended winglets that improved climb performance, range, and fuel economy by roughly 5%. In 2011, Dassault split the platform into the long-range Falcon 2000LXS and the short-field-focused Falcon 2000S, the latter capable of operating from runways under 4,000 feet.
