Development & Background

A new super-midsize segment for Cessna

The Cessna Citation Longitude was created not to replace, but to add a new segment to Cessna's lineup — a super-midsize business jet with extended range, superior speed, and a larger cabin. With a range of 3,500 nautical miles, the Longitude is comparable to its competitors, giving celebrities, Fortune 500 executives, and private families coast-to-coast travel and nonstop transatlantic routes, especially from the Northeast.

With its first flight in 2016 and FAA certification in September 2019, the Citation Longitude was designed to bring a super-midsize cabin with midsize-level operating costs and efficiency. More than 100 units have been delivered since.

Clients consistently highlight the jet-lag-reducing cabin altitude of just 5,950 ft while cruising at 45,000 ft, along with luxury seating that reclines to near-flat beds.

"Flying the Citation Longitude is a pleasure. Its Garmin G5000 avionics and outstanding climb performance make it as capable for long-range missions as it is for shorter regional flights."

Capabilities & Performance

The quietest Citation, built for long range

The Citation Longitude is powered by two Honeywell HTF7700L engines producing 7,665 lbs of thrust, delivering a 3,500 nm range ideal for U.S. coast-to-coast travel, transatlantic routes from the Northeast, or Los Angeles to Honolulu nonstop. Fuel efficiency is 15% better than its competitors, with a 4,300 fpm climb rate that reaches cruise altitude quickly for improved fuel efficiency.

The aircraft is equipped with the latest Garmin G5000 avionics, including synthetic vision, autothrottles, advanced weather radar, and predictive wind shear alert, along with overspeed/underspeed protection for its high-altitude operating envelope. The Longitude also has 35 fewer pre-flight checklist items than its nearest competitors, reducing time between the ramp and takeoff.

As a two-pilot aircraft, hired pilots train through CAE or Flight Safety, with first officers typically at 1,500 total flight hours and captains at 3,000. Charter operations rely on Argus/Wyvern safety certifications to ensure qualified crews.
