Development & Background

The fastest, most spacious Citation 525

Combining midsize-jet characteristics with light-jet operational costs, the Cessna Citation CJ4 is one of the most coveted light jets to charter. The CJ4 is designed for popular routes such as New York to Miami, Dallas to Aspen, Los Angeles to Denver, or Chicago to Houston. Like the Citation CJ3, the CJ4 gives travelers access to short-runway airports while adding cabin space and cost-effective operating costs, but with improved range and seating capacity.

Cessna Aircraft Company launched the Citation CJ4 in 2006, flew it for the first time in May 2008, and entered service in 2010. The aircraft was designed to meet customer demand for a longer-range, faster, more spacious version of the popular Citation CJ3, while keeping the single-pilot certification the Citation 525 series is known for. One of the most noticeable differences from earlier models is a new swept-wing design that improves fuel efficiency and runway performance.

"The CJ4 jet offers the best of both worlds—fast climb, efficient fuel burn, and a surprisingly spacious cabin. On frequent routes such as Chicago–Miami or Los Angeles–Dallas, it's as comfortable as some midsize jets but at a lower cost."
— CJ4-Type-Rated Captain
"We booked a CJ4 private jet charter for our company's quarterly meeting. The cabin was quiet and well-equipped for in-flight conferencing."

Cabin & Interior Experience

Club-four seating with room for nine

The Citation CJ4 offers a genuinely spacious interior for its class — standing out favorably against comparable light jets like the Hawker 800XP or Learjet 45. Standard seating accommodates 7 passengers, with an optional 8th or 9th seat, arranged in a straightforward club-four layout with side-facing seats and a two-place bench.

Luggage is split between two compartments — nose and tail — totaling roughly 77 cubic feet, enough for 6 to 8 roller bags. High-speed Wi-Fi is optional but common, along with an in-flight satellite phone and a cabin management system for lighting, music, and video.

Capabilities & Performance

A swept wing built for range and speed

Cessna equipped the Citation CJ4 with two reliable Williams FJ44-4A turbofan engines producing 3,621 lbs of thrust each, delivering fuel-efficient subsonic cruise at 451 KTAS, a service ceiling of 45,000 ft reached in just 28 minutes, and a range of 2,165 nautical miles at roughly 210 gallons per hour. Pilots use easy-to-operate Rockwell/Collins Pro Line 21 avionics, equipped with dual Flight Management Systems (FMS), GPS/WAAS, IFIS, and weather radar for optimal safety and precision navigation across all phases of flight, with a takeoff distance of 3,410 feet.
