Development & Background
Part of the Citation 525 series, the Citation CJ2/CJ2+ is one of the most versatile and popular light jets for charter. Built on the success of the Citation CJ1, the CJ2/CJ2+ offers more range, higher cruise speeds, and a larger cabin while keeping operating costs competitive.
The CJ2's mission profile suits executives or families who need private jet service on short-to-mid-range routes such as Chicago to Dallas, New York to Miami, or Houston to Cabo San Lucas. Like most light jets, it can land at smaller airports that larger aircraft such as the Gulfstream GIV can't reach, bringing passengers closer to their final destination.
Russ Meyer, CEO of Cessna Aircraft Company at the time, saw a need to fill the gap between the Citation CJ1 and larger midsize jets. After being certified by the FAA in October 2000, the Citation CJ2 filled that market gap, and over 770 aircraft have since been delivered to charter companies and business owners.
"The CJ2 jet is known for its excellent climb performance and efficiency—it's a great upgrade from the CJ1 with more cabin space and longer legs."
"We booked a Citation CJ2 charter flight from Dallas to Nassau. It was comfortable, smooth, and perfect for our group of five."

Cabin & Interior Experience
The Citation CJ2/CJ2+ is a step up in comfort from the CJ1. Like the CJ1, it offers club seating for 4 passengers, but includes additional seating for up to 6. Fold-out executive tables and laptop power ports are available, along with a climate-controlled, pressurized cabin for smooth, quiet flights and an expanded 70-cubic-foot baggage compartment for overnight luggage or multiple golf bags.
The CJ2/CJ2+ interior is designed for travelers who value comfort on flights lasting 2 to 4 hours.
Capabilities & Performance
Cessna equipped the Citation CJ2 with two reliable Williams FJ44-2C turbofan engines, delivering fuel-efficient subsonic cruise at 413 KTAS, a service ceiling of 45,000 ft, a range of 1,700 nautical miles, and easy-to-use Garmin-based avionics for pilot interface and navigation, along with consistent short-field takeoff capability. In 2006, Cessna introduced FADEC (Full Authority Digital Engine Control), standard on the CJ2+ variant — a system that uses computers to manage engine performance, thrust, and fuel flow to reduce pilot workload.
