Development & Background

Three generations, one proven airframe

Due to demand for a slightly larger, longer-range jet than the Cessna Citation I, Cessna introduced the Citation II (Model 550) in 1977, followed by two further variants: the Citation S/II and Citation Bravo. The Citation S/II, nicknamed the "Super II," arrived in 1984 with improved aerodynamics, more powerful Pratt & Whitney engines, and better climb performance.

The Citation Bravo followed in 1997, further modernizing the platform with Pratt & Whitney PW530A engines, a Honeywell Primus 1000 glass cockpit, an upgraded interior, and improved range and fuel efficiency. By the time production ended in 2006, over 1,100 Citation 550 variants had been delivered worldwide.

"We've used the Citation Bravo for executive trips between Dallas and Denver, and it's consistently cost-effective without sacrificing comfort."

Cabin & Interior Experience

Club seating with room to work

The Cessna Citation 550 seats 6 to 8 passengers in standard club-style seating with fold-out tables. LED cabin lighting and power outlets illuminate the cabin, and most configurations include a compact lavatory. A 73–74 cubic-foot rear baggage area holds roughly 3–4 suitcases and 2–3 golf bags.

Capabilities & Performance

A dependable dual-pilot platform

The Citation 550 is equipped with two Pratt & Whitney JT15D-4B engines (II and S/II) or PW530A engines (Bravo). The combination of engines, fuselage, and wing aerodynamics allows a range of up to 2,150 nm on the Bravo variant, cruising as high as 45,000 ft.

Pilots have access to a Honeywell Primus 1000 avionics suite with strong situational awareness and safety features. The Citation II is dual-pilot operated, with charter operations typically requiring at least 2,500 total flight hours to serve as captain.
