Development & Background
The BBJ 787 program began in the 2010s as Boeing sought to bring Dreamliner technology into the VIP market. The first BBJ 787-8 VIP variant was delivered in 2015, followed by the 787-9 and 787-10, each tailored for different range, passenger count, and interior customization.
Boeing built the BBJ 787 with a composite fuselage, larger windows, improved pressurization, and advanced climate control, allowing a lower cabin altitude of around 6,000 ft that reduces passenger fatigue on long-haul flights.
Trent 1000 or GEnx engines power these jets, providing fuel-efficient thrust and quiet operation, while winglets and aerodynamic refinements extend range and improve performance. Interiors are customized by leading VIP cabin designers, with master suites, lounges, boardrooms, dining areas, and entertainment zones all built for intercontinental travel in comfort. The BBJ 787 has been delivered to royal families and corporations globally, setting a new standard for ultra-long-range corporate aviation.

Cabin & Interior Experience
Step inside the BBJ 787 Dreamliner and experience a fully customizable cabin spanning 3,500 to 4,500 sq ft depending on the variant. The interior is divided into multiple zones, including a master bedroom suite with an en-suite bathroom, a conference or dining area for 12 to 20 passengers, lounge and entertainment spaces, and office areas with high-speed Wi-Fi. Dedicated crew rest areas and galleys support smooth operations on long flights.
The cabin is crafted with a composite fuselage, expansive windows, and LED ambient lighting for a bright, serene environment. Advanced air filtration and pressurization let passengers arrive refreshed even after ultra-long flights of 12 to 16 hours.
Capabilities & Performance
The BBJ 787 is powered by either Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 or GE GEnx-1B engines delivering 65,000 to 76,500 lbf of thrust each, depending on the variant. It cruises at Mach 0.85 with a long-range cruise of Mach 0.82 and offers ranges up to 9,300 nm for the 787-9. The aircraft operates at a service ceiling of 43,000 ft and requires roughly 9,400 ft for takeoff and 5,900 ft for landing at maximum takeoff weight.
The flight deck is equipped with Boeing's advanced avionics suite, including Head-Up Display, Enhanced Vision System, and fly-by-wire controls. Typical crew includes two pilots, often hired with at least 3,000 flight hours and extensive jet experience.
